Changing Futures North East
Changing Futures North East are looking for volunteer Befrienders (known as Independent Visitors) to match with children and young people living in care. The idea is to spend time together twice a month enjoying fun activities, forming a friendship and providing a stable adult presence in a young person’s life.
You don’t need any particular skills or experience. We ask that you are 18+ and willing to be a positive, friendly and committed adult for a young person who may not have many other reliable connections. We ask for a commitment of at least two years to give each young person the opportunity to benefit from a long-term friendship.
We provide full training on safeguarding and trauma, a DBS check (if you don’t have one already) and support from a dedicated volunteer co-ordinator for the duration of your match.
We currently support 80 young people and their volunteer Befrienders across the Tees Valley, but there are over 50 young people still waiting for the right match. All expenses and mileage costs are covered by us, so all we need is your time.
